Downblock – Directing the Fist


There is a common error when performing the down block. The error occurs when winding the lower arm too far around the body –

the wrist instead of the fist will be hit by oncoming kick.


This is the error with the arm winding too far around the body:

Notice the wrist will take the “hit” from the approaching kick.

Here is the correct position of the fist:

Here the knuckles are facing toward the opponents kick.

The fist will protect the ribs and the wrist is not exposed.

Use the mirror to check this.
