Strive for Perfection

Every time we practice Karate, we must practice with intention. We must focus our efforts on getting better and improving each move, stance and kata. We cannot practice mindlessly. Instead, we need to study well and strive for perfection.

Not practicing mindlessly is different than Mushin, or having an empty mind. Mushin is the result of numerous years of mindful practice. It can only occur after the moves are already well ingrained into our muscle memory. This will only happen if we practice with intention and strive for perfection each and every time we practice karate.

Watch and listen to your teachers. Learn from the Shinden. Strive for perfection. Study well.

"Ideals are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like seafarers on the desert waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny." - Carl Schurz

Arigato Gozaimasu Hanshi for providing us with the ideal example of striving for perfection in everything that we do.
