POISE UNDER PRESSURE

Your state of mind is not exactly a "technique", but it can be one of
the most important elements in a self defense situation.

A state of calmness "under attack" is often achieved from experience
dealing with challenging situations.

Our every day training provides us with that steady platform to build
our base. Everything that we accomplish is achieved from that base
that we have built through the months and years that we have invested
in our training.

When testing for a new rank, while you are on the "spot", although it
is not intended - you can feel like you are under attack and defending
yourself in a life and death situation.
While this is not really the case, if you have trained enough and are
serious enough, your mind and body may react instinctively,
intuitively, and automatically enough to adequately protect yourself
from harm.

In the best situation if you are "centered", present in the moment and
aware of future possible events you may be in control of your situation
and the master of your future.

This " mastery" can be used in the moment while under physical attack,
which rarely happens OR for the grander purpose - like controlling your
future and life.

Hanshi, thank you for teaching me this.

Develop a "Strong Poise" and let it carry you through your life.

Domo Arigato Gozaimasu Hanshi,

Daniel Gobillot
