TANDEN - BREATH - OXYGEN

In the book "Building Warrior Spirit" by Robert Scaglione, Hanshi, a
chapter that I've referred to over and over again throughout the
years and is my favorite, would be Chapter III, Tanden/Spirit- Lower
Abdomen.

Our spirit supports us and guides us throughout our lives. It surges
and wanes, ebbs and flows and powers us in every step through our
life's experiences. Spirit can be thought to reside in the " hara",
the center
of a person's being or consciousness, located just below the navel.
This is where we draw breath to. This is the area of the body that we
as martial artists prize and nourish. We fill this part of our body
with oxygen
to strengthen our spirit, health and well being. We build a strong core to rest on a strong foundation.

Oxygen comprises 62% to 71% of the body and is the body's most
abundant and essential element. Ninety (90%) percent of all our
biological energy comes from oxygen. It is no surprise that when you hold your breath or stop breathing during physical activity, like kata for instance, normal bodily
functions begin to deteriorate.
" Seven seconds pressure on the throat by administration of a choke
hold on a person and the subject is rendered unconscious. One-half
minute and the subject is dead." page 65
Disease causing microorganisms, viruses, bacteria and pathogens cannot
survive in oxygen rich environments. A highly oxygenated body
destroys disease that already exists in the body and builds immune
defenses.
Breathe deeply my friends! However only 15% of the oxygen that we
inhale is absorbed into the bloodstream.
Physical activity like what we do, karate, requires us to breath more
freq uently and deeper while we practice thus taking in more oxygen.
Since I began training in 1988, almost 23 years ago I have experienced
less than
a dozen colds or sicknesses.

Why is this? I attribute it to my
training. I may have found similar results if I pursued some other
physical activity but I didn't.
One out of every 3 adults in America has cancer, but most incidences
are as yet undiagnosed and detected. Additionally, every human being has cancer cells existing in the body which are seeking a low-oxygen
environment where they can multiply into the full-blown disease.
Cancerous tumors shrink when put into contact with oxygen and studies
conducted by researchers and doctors have proven that not only cancer
cells
but all toxins, bacteria, viruses, pathogens and disease
microorganisms are oxidized and killed in high oxygen e nvironments.

If you don't have the "Green Book" get it today. If you do have one,
pull it out and begin reading at page 64 "Breath of Life". All you
need to know is there. Keep training!
