THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

"You Only Cheat Yourself"

By Judith T. Scaglione, Shihan - Okinawan Karate Dojo

"You only cheat yourself." is a quote from Sensei Joe Roberts, San-Dan in Shorin-Ryu Karate USA under the direction of Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro.  Roberts Sensei is an x Marine from Kansas City, Mo. and he use to train and sweat on the deck at the Midtown Karate Dojo. His Marine assignment was Force Recon, the front lines, the guys who did  repelling and all that stuff that requires super human strength. I remember hearing him say those words when he would, as a guest instructor teach a class, in reference to getting lower, hitting harder etc.  I would like to make a point about only cheating yourself in reference to the upcoming Katathon.  If Karate is where you get your strength and focus and the energy and health to enjoy life and be creative and productive, get involved in this Fund raiser. The day will come and the day will go and it will be a success. If you missed it, that was your loss! A jogger jogs, a weight lifter lifts weights and a karate person uses kata as a vehicle to achieve serenity, tranquillity and an incredible physical workout. Harmony of body mind and spirit is achieved through the practice of kata. Get involved. Get sponsors. (1cents a kata, 5cents a kata any amount works, it all averages out.) Ask yourself, "What can I do to make this once a year fund raiser a success?" The building that houses the Museum is owned by every person in the Shorin-Ryu Karate Organization. It is owned by YOU not owned by any one person but all of US. All checks are written to Shorin-Ryu Karate USA Building fund. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to propagating the art of Shorin-Ryu. Our Museum is located at 1755 S. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, Fl. 32952 and is supported by the Building Fund and we are a permanent institution. We are dedicated to preserving in perpetuity the art and culture of Shorin-Ryu.  This is our building, our passion, our Art, please be as generous as possible in supporting our cause.  Arigato, Sensei Judy
