Moving/Standing

Spend as little time as possible on one foot in all the postures of all the kata. Orchestrate the moves with the stepping foot FIRST in order to secure your balance (footing). Fractions of a second apply. Do NOT dwell (turn) on one foot. Do NOT move or turn the middle or upper body first. Move the stepping foot first.

This is exemplified in the moves described in Master Nagamine's text: F1, figs.11 &12 P1, figs. 15 & 16 P2, figs. 14 &15 In the Red Book: F3, figs. 1a & 2 and in all moves of all the kata, especially the turns. And in all moves of all life and death combat situations, especially the turns. Do not fight while standing on one foot. Exceptions to this principal are the one legged stances as in Rohai, kicking techniques and the universal blocks as in Wankan and Wanshu. Arigato, Kyoshi Robert Scaglione.
