Stepping

When stepping keep the feet gliding close to the deck,
one inch or less...not stepping high and not dragging
the foot either.

The heel of the stepping foot generally stays low to the deck
especially in the low stances. Do not step out onto the balls
of the feet. This is a common error in the chasing punch and in the
turns in zenkutsu dachi of the basic kata . See your instructor for
details.

Exceptions to the principal described is stepping out of the Yoi position
of the Pinan kata, we point the toe before the turn in the first move of
each
Pinan. In the cat stances the forward foot has the heel high and toe
rooted.
The foot sweeps and kicks and Niahanchi kata has the feet lifting high
off the deck for kicks, sweeps and foot slams.

Arigato,
Kyoshi Robert Scaglione.
