 Gan Precept

The Gan precept is explicitly detailed in Chapter 1 of the
Green Book, "Building Warrior Spirit". Note second paragraph
page 18.

The Gan precept encompasses remote sensing, peripheral
vision, focus, awareness, piercing with the eyes, attitude and
much more as described in the Green Book.

Common errors, as experienced in the kata or in the formal
"warm ups" are:
1. closing the eyes, especially at critical moments.
2. looking down (at the deck).
3. looking up (at the ceiling or sky).
4. rolling the eyes back into the head.
5. not focusing or keying in.
6. shutting down during turns or spinning movements.
7. tuning out, not being aware at ALL times during kata,
warm ups or performance.

Research this well.

Arigato,
Kyoshi Robert Scaglione.
